John Portman and Associates (JPA) worked directly with the client, the Mayor of Guri, South Korea, during 2008-09 to create a vision and formal plans for the redevelopment of several districts within the city center of Guri. Within the realm of sustainability, I developed proposals to integrate environmentally sustainable targets within the project scope. To take advantage of natural sunlight, I completed sun shade studies to analyze the effects of shadows from the proposed design. This provided the lead designer with necessary information to make better decisions about shape, height, and design of buildings as related to other neighboring buildings and public spaces. The design of the redeveloped area integrates existing public transport networks, park/green space infrastructure, streets with ample space for cyclers and pedestrians, as well as additional building and urban planning concepts explained in the images below. Additional project information is available on JPA's website. * All images property of JPA.
