Languages
Over the years, I have spoken different languages to varying degrees of success. Before moving to Germany, I gained a beginner’s skill in German in 2009. While working in Haiti in 2010, I was able to leverage my high school French-speaking skills. While living in Spain during 2010-2011, I worked my way to intermediate level of Spanish. My current language project is Dutch (Flemish dialect) to be able to better communicate with my Flemish husband’s family. |
International Conferences
I have had the opportunity to speak at a few international urban planning conferences. In 2010, I spoke about my city planning experience in Haiti during the International Federation of Housing and Planning’s (IFHP) annual conference in Porto Alegre, Brazil. In 2011, I presented on my work in the Philippines under the title, “Joining urban land parcels to reduce disaster risk: Facilitating earthquake-resistant housing in the Philippines” during the annual Resilient Cities congress held in Bonn, Germany by ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability. |
