Systems thinking and system dynamics can provide a functional framework for approaching urban questions and challenges. With Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC), I worked on a Problem-Centric Process approach to achieve the following: 1) understand how the work of various divisions is interconnected and mutually reinforcing (to prioritize work), 2) highlight was is/is not within ARC's sphere of influence (to determine realistic action), and 3) find "hotspots" of connected issues or "wicked problems" facing the Atlanta region (to focus efforts on the most critical issues). Wicked problems tend to be interdisciplinary and span various subject areas. Draft lists of datasets were produced to illustrate how data could be analyzed to better understand some wicked problems and even reduce their impact. * All products property of ARC.
