Education
Educating others is key when working on complex topics for which group decisions must be made. My work tends to be on more specialized topics, and therefore, I acknowledge the need for education as a starting point. I have taught high school students about the range of professional options in the field of transportation, and I have taught transportation professionals about integrating the needs of the transportation-disadvantaged more to their work. Additional topics include transportation for emergency management, regional transit planning processes, mobility management, and lessons learned from projects. |
Facilitation
Facilitation skills are as critical as education when working with groups on decision-making and/or consensus building. I structure discussions keeping in mind the following: exploration, focus areas, and action items. I enjoy the process of facilitating productive conversations towards specific results. At a larger scale, I see facilitation as helping groups understand problems and find solutions. |
